Hi,
I recently purchased a round skirt Bob Marshall saddle.  I ordered the Charmayne James Othosport Round Pad to go with it, but the saddle covers up the whole pad, so I don't like how that looks.

Is there anyone else on here using the round skirt Bob Marshall saddle?  If so...what saddle pad do you use?

Thanks!
Marci~

Hi.  I don't know a round pad that will actually fit well under a bob marshall.
The skirt is larger than most so very few round pads actually fit where the skirt
ends and gives that good 2-3" lip around it.  Most of the time in the past, on the
saddle that I owned, I had to go with a square 30x30 inch square pad in order
for the pad to fit well under the saddle and look like I didn't have too much pad.
I think you are on the right track with the Charmayne pad tho.  They aren't
bulky under a sports saddle and don't cause a rolling motion to the saddle.
Also another pad to try (altho it is square) is the Reinsman Tacky Too pad
with the black waffle pattern underneath.  It ensures a good fit under a sports
saddle as well and you won't get a roll under that either.  Alot of people do
ride with a wool throw over show type pad under a sports saddle, but I don't
recommend that simply because it doesn't give any support to the horse's
back and you will on occassion have a horse that will get sore without that support.

Hope this info helps.
Thanks,

woo hoo - I just love getting confirmation for something I am doing right!!

My Bob Marshall is the best investment I have ever made.  Just love it.  We have tried all kinds of pads beneath it:  Classic Equine, Impact Gel, Larry Coats Balance, etc.

But my fav is the Tacky Too.  Because of its thin design, it keeps you in close contact with the horse, the whole purpose of a treeless saddle.  Since it is a lightweight pad, there is none of the roll effect that Laura talks about.  I think it would work fine under a round skirt.  I don't ride in round skirts because I feel more comfortable with more saddle under my rear!

I would think cut out wither pads would not be optimal because the only hard part of the saddle would sit right the horse's withers (especially on big ole Lazer, Turn!).

IMO - the more thick the pad, the more you loose the wonderful effect a treeless saddle offers.

MM, where could I pick up a Tacky Too pad?  My Classic Equine is on it's last leg, time for a new pad.

I got mine from Shawna, at Cowboy's.  I think she bought my saddle rite and I used some of the money to buy the Tacky Too.  They are not expensive, like less than $50.  If you want to use mine before you buy one, please just ask me!!  Like tomorrow nite??
