Work on bumping your immune system up, Lots of Vit C and some extra D, A and K along with making sure you are getting lysine, Magnesium and Zinc.  I have had walking pneumonia several times in my life and Ben has had pneumonia 3 x's in his life, he had to be hospitalized each time, but there is no way (in H E L L) I would get him that shot nor take it myself.   Again, if you have a surpressed immune system why would you want to have a virus injected or inhale one into your body?    If it is already taxed what would make you think a surpressed system could handle anymore?  Have to start thinking about stuff like that.

I really don't know what to do. I have Asthma and have a history of bronchitis, and pneumonia.... I know this particular virus attacks the respiratory system...... I have never had a flu shot before either. This all makes me more than nervous....
If it makes you feel any better, my son had H1N1 last week....he has asthma and a heart condition and had no problem at all !  Even took homeopathic flu meds... I know some Dr's here that are RELIEVED when you tell them you don't want the shot...mine was :)

I really don't understand why the vaccine is being pushed.  I have 2 daughter-in-laws that are expecting and their doctors are really trying to push the vaccine.  From my research there has been 28 deaths of expectant mothers from the swine flu--there are 10,800 babies born in the US everyday.  That is over 3 million expectant mothers in the US right now--according to my calculations that is .000009% deaths!!  How can everyone be expected to get a vaccine with odds like that?

I believe you find that percentage pretty persistant on all of the vaccines.

Tamet---I've got a question.  On another website there is a discussion about the swine flu.  There are several posters that are saying a person can get the swine flu again in the same year and that their doctors have told them this also.  So if having the swine flu doesn't build up any immunity, how is a vaccine going to work?

I'll post more from home, but don't wanna do it from my work computer.

As for having it...the doc I work for said people who have had it do not need the vaccine and unfortunately, even with the shortage, this won't be monitored and chances are a lot of people will be needlessly vaccinated. I hadn't asked if you can get it twice, but since they aren't subtyping for H1N1 anymore unless absolutely necessary...anyone who has had positive flu twice, probably had two different types.

I would have to agree with Mandi on this one, it is more than likely 2 different types

Not that I intend to take the vaccine (have never taken a flu shot before).. but is this one egg based as well?

Mom had allergy to egg and took a flu vaccine once (horrible results)... and I am apparently developing an allergy to eggs.

They have not published the ingredients for the swine flu (that I have found).   Mandi can you look on the publication that comes with the vaccine?

They previously attempted to concoct a swine flu vaccine (H1N1) YEARS ago and it's result was the Guillian Barre' Syndrome. My doc said he will NOT be taking the vaccine this time around for that exact reason and the lack of research behind this shot. He's open to the mist version, but is like me in saying that with as much as we have been exposed here at work, we likely already have plenty of antibodies built up or we would have gotten it by now.

If a doctor is refusing the shot...you can bet your arse I will too (of course...I was going to refuse anyhow).

I'm working on trying to find the package inserts online...we don't have the vaccine in our area at work so I can't get my hands on the actual inserts.

Typically, they are all available online. I printed them and created a notebook for my area at work awhile back because keeping up with those giant pages folded into teenie, tiny squares is a real PITA.
