Ebarrelracing.com rocks

« on: July 01, 2005, 11:35:02 AM »

when i first got my mare, she hauled just fine straight or slant. now all we can do is haul her slant load. i have a two horse straight load trailer. i have to start hauling my 5yrd to the barrel races but i can't because my other mare just won't do it. she will start bucking and rocking the trailer as soon as you barely move the trailer she does that. i can't afford to go and buy a different trailer either. is there anything that i can do to help be able to haul them both in the two horse trailer.

thanks

I would have the mare thoroughly checked by your vet.  It could be that she
is experiencing pain or soreness that is intensified by the vibration of the
trailer or the position that she is standing in.  Get them to palpate her
for ovary or uterus problems, infections, cysts, etc. and also have her
hocks and stifles checked for inflammation.  If she hauled fine when you got
her, something has happened to change that and you need to figure out what
that "something" was - is the trailer large enough for her to stand
comfortably when going down the road?  Do you take the stops and corners
easily and not too fast or too quickly?  Is there adequate ventilation in
the trailer so that she is not too hot or has trouble getting adequate,
clean air to breathe?  Is her head tied too tightly or too high when in the
trailer?
