Needs Confidence in the turns

I have a 5 yr old Dash for Cash gelding. I dont believe he was started "right" when he was first broke. He is doing well now very responsive backing, side passing, bending and turning. When I first got him he would bend his neck to your knee and keep going where he wanted. That is fixed now and he follows his nose. My problem is I he has already figured out the pattern on me (trotting for 3 weeks) but I can get no confidence in him at a lope even in the pasture. I had only started walking and trotting him for him to start learning, my main priority was his loping and being comfortable at it (we only went through the pattern 5 times a day on the days I walked and trotted through it). I have been attempting to corkscrew him but he gets to a point where his head goes up and he acts like he cant think at all (and this is not a small circle probably 40 feet when he freaks on me). He occasionally crow hops when I start loping him. To me this all said pain. I have had him chiropracted and vet checked everything is fine. I am figuring he just doesnt think he can do it. Can you suggest any types of excercise that would help this. Or should I just keep loping and loping. It gets difficult to keep him together when his head goes up he is really flexable and he will just bend throw the head up and I lose control of his shoulders and rearend. He rides in a 1/8 in o ring snaffle and running martingle right now. I am really taking my time with him but he should be able to do what I am asking of him. Thanks for any suggestions!

If this horse were mine, I would have to have him checked for EPM.
Something is causing him great distress when you ask him to lope and you
haven't found the problem yet. Keep looking.....
