Laura Ingalls Wilder Pioneer Day Comes Alive at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame

Fort Worth, Texas - In honor and celebration of Women's History Month, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame presents Laura Ingalls Wilder  Pioneer Day on Saturday, March 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The museum will turn back the clock and fill its galleries with pioneer  artifacts and activities reminiscent of Laura's time.  Children and adults can compare the one-room schoolhouse with their own school experiences, make corn husk dolls and learn how to milk a cow.

Dr. Luther Clegg, Emeritus Professor of Education at Texas Christian University, and author of The Empty Schoolhouse: Memories of One-room Texas  Schools, has devoted his adult life to researching Laura Ingalls Wilder.  He will take visitors back in time with an interactive presentation focusing on Laura's experiences in the one room schoolhouse.

Using authentic artifacts and activities, themed areas in the museum will invite guests to step into the world of Laura Ingalls Wilder and other pioneers.  In the museum's various galleries, children and adults are  invited to hear about other National Cowgirl Hall of Fame honorees from Laura's time, including sharpshooter Annie Oakley, photographer Laura Gilpin and horse diver Mamie Hafley.

"We have chosen Laura Ingalls Wilder as a focus for celebrating Women's History Month because of her enduring legacy of finding joy and happiness in everyday life," said Patricia Riley, Executive Director of the Museum.  "She is one of our best loved honorees in the Cowgirl Hall of Fame and we are thrilled to ask the community to join us in honoring her with this event."

Details: Laura Ingalls Wilder Pioneer Day at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is on Saturday, March 5 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  This event is  open to the public with regular paid admission - $6 for adults, $5 for  seniors ages 55 and up, $4 for children ages 6 to 18 and free for children 5 and under with one paid adult admission.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only institution  dedicated to honoring and documenting the lives of legendary women of the  American West that have displayed a pioneering spirit in their trailblazing  efforts.  Located at 1720 Gendy Street in Fort Worth's Cultural District,  museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and Noon to 5  p.m. on Sundays.
