Stephenville, TX.-Living up to its legend, Stephenville, TX will present the 38th annual Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo and exciting changes are in store!

For the first time in the Erath County Livestock Association history, which produces the rodeo, the Cowboy Capital of the World ProRodeo will move from it’s traditional outdoor arena venue to an the indoor facility of Lone Star Arena, Stephenville, Texas for details click here. The arena, which has seating capacity of 2,500, is located on Hwy 377 N on the outside limits of Stephenville.

Along with the change in venue, comes a change of dates. Traditionally, the rodeo has conflicted with Mother’s Day and Tarleton State University graduation, being held the second weekend in May. The committee decided to move the rodeo back to be held starting Thursday, May 31 and finishing on Saturday, June 2.

Additionally, the Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo will host it’s first ever “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” event, sponsored by Wrangler in honor of cancer victims and survivors. The first performance of the rodeo, Thursday, May 31 is designated as the official “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” performance. For every spectator that comes to the rodeo wearing something pink, $1 of their admission will go to the American Cancer Society. There will be a special grand entry for the event and Erath county survivors and victims will be recognized and cancer education and awareness information will be available.

A staple for the Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo is the Erath County Team Roping. This year, the dates have changed for it as well with the move being made to Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. Contestants wishing to enter this roping must be Erath County residents. The top ten teams from Saturday’s contest will advance to the Saturday night rodeo performance.

Jerry Nelson of Frontier Rodeo Company will be this year’s stock contractor with Terry Starnes announcing the action. Gizmo McCracken will provide arena comedy as the contract personnel.

Fantastic prizes are available for a raffle sponsored by the ECLA committee and include a shotgun, a 100X beaver cowboy hat, one ton of horse feed and two pair of Twisted X boots. Tickets are $10 each and the drawing will be held on Saturday, June 2’s performance.

For the kids, there will be the ever popular Muttin’ Bustin’ event allowing kids 3-7 years old and under 50 pounds to test their abilities on a wild and wooly sheep. Entry fee is $10 and registration will be at the arena prior to each night’s rodeo performance only and is limited to 25 contestants per night.

The slack performance of the rodeo will start on the morning of May 30 and it is free to the public. Regular performances of the rodeo will begin at 8:00 each night; with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance in Stephenville at the following outlets: Saddle Rags, RP’s Western Outlet, Grand Entry Western Wear and Signs and Designs. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate.
