Cammie Jo Rogers

Where are you from? Rio Vista, Texas

When did you start barrel racing? When I was 3 years old.

Are you involved in any other equine events? Yes I run poles tie goats rope calves.

Who or What got you started barrel racing? My older brothers rodeoed and so I grew up riding horses

On the road sometimes things happen do you have an usual or funny story? Nothing unusual has happened but I have got to see and go lots of places most kids my age probably don’t get to go. I have also met lots of neat people and made some really good friends.

What was the name of your favorite horse and tell us a little about it. I don’t have one favorite each of my horses are my favorite in their own way.

What are some of the events that you have won (or races that stand out in your mind)? My first buckle when I was 3 was in the barrels I was in the 6 & under age group it was a champion buckle. I have won 5 world championships 4 of them were in the American Junior Rodeo Assoc. I won the Ogden 8 & under world championship. I have won 23 saddles in all some of them all around and some of them event. I’ve won over 100 buckles. My favorite saddle is my AJRA all around world Championship because I had to work harder to win it.

Over the years have you noticed any changes in barrel racing what are the good or bad you’ve seen? I’ve seen it get bigger and I think Thats great and the horses get better all of the time. The bad thing I see in barrel racing is kids that are over mounted by their parents the winning will come eventually but it should come as the rider progresses. The horse and the rider have to be a team which means they should both be on the same competition level.

What is do you think of an equal pay out 4d? I think it is wrong. I think the D barrel races are great incentive to help the rider progress but when they get equal money it doesn’t give incentive to get better And the equal payout is not right because you don’t give the same money for a cheaper quality verses a higher quality.

What grade are you in and where do you go to school? I’m in 5th grade I go to school at Blum ISD in Blum TX.

After you finish school what do you want to do? To go to Texas A&M to become a equine vet. and go to the NFR!

Who is your favorite barrel racer or barrel racers? Fallon Taylor, and Charmayne James

Do you think barrel racing should be limited to women only?

YES!
