Newsletter - 2003
Hi Everyone, I want to start of by
congratulating all the winners, sponsors, and members
of Texas 7. We had a great year in 2002 giving out more than $10,000.
in awards. At our
first race we gave reins to all the 4 D winners with 8 & under
included. At our second race
we gave out Halters and lead ropes. Then we had a series on teaching
the 8 & Under kids '
how to stop their horse and gave Halters.
We had a two day saddle series and gave out a saddle, then in June we
had a 2 day
Buckle series and awarded 9 of the most beautiful Why O Silver
Buckles. The end of the With the end of yr.
approaching rapidly and before you knew it we were having our Finals
at Rio Grande
Classic Arena where we awarded 9 Saddles, 9 Buckles, 9 Breast Collars,
9 Headstalls,
9 Halters and Lead ropes and then proceed to give out our sponsor
plaques with the
United States flag with our NBHA logo on them.
We had the best year in Texas 7 history and I am only hoping that this
year will be just as
great. We will be having a membership meeting at the fund raiser raise
on February 15th at
Rio Grand Classic Arena and be discussing our ideas for 2003 and
raising sponsorship money.
We will be checking for updated coggins and we will need for all
members to help set barrels this year because Richard will not be here
to help as much as he did last year. Last year I did not push anyone
into selling raffle tickets or getting sponsors but being your
organization I feel that all the members need to get more involved
with getting sponsors and helping in the arena.
If we do not get saddles sponsored we will not be able to give them
out. The youth and the 8 & under do not make enough money to support
giving this many saddles. in 2002 we were able to do it because of all
the sponsors I was able to get. This year I cannot go back to the same
people and ask them to donate again so my suggestion to everyone is to
please try and get at least one sponsor.
The saddles are $565.
Buckles are $250.00
To put on a Barrel race this is what it cost:
Arena Sanctioning $25.00 Per Day
Water $35.00 A Load 3 Minimum
So right off the bat it cost us just about $100.00 per race. We make
approximately $200-$250. in exhibition money. I take my 20% right off
the top and the office fee of $5.00 is paid directly to Kristie paying
her no more than $100. per race. If we do have access money it is
applied to postage and flyers which is very rare because I usually pay
for that.
So if we are able to net $150. a race we are doing good. That times 18
races nets us about $2,700. for the year. So as you can clearly see
that it why it is so important to get sponsors to help us with our end
of the year awards. Saddles $5,000. Buckles $2,000. and the remainder
of awards. Plus I would love to see some added money to some of our
races. Anyway those are just my thoughts and we are all open to
suggestions. Thanks for all your support and let's have great 2003.
