AT THE NATIONAL COWGIRL MUSEUM AND HALL OF FAME
FORT WORTH, Texas – Grab your reins this fall because Cowgirl University starts up on September 17, 2005. Cowgirl U is a new series of adult-education classes offered through the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, dedicated to teaching western lifestyle and culture.
Cowgirl 101 and Ranching Rodeo and Basics, Cowgirl U’s first two courses this fall, will take place at Riley Ranches just 20 minutes west of Fort Worth, Texas where prairies and pastures make up the classroom and students astride horses use ropes for utensils.
Cowgirl 101 is for beginners. It’s a full-day hands-on adventure for those with little or no horse experience to ease into the western lifestyle. Grooming, saddling and riding horses are just the beginning. The day starts off with basic horse care and then introduces students to a variety of ranch activities like roping, trail riding and more. The day will end with light refreshments and a friendly game of ‘washer’ pitching.
For folks with a bit more “horse†experience, Cowgirl U offers Ranching and Rodeo Basics on October 14 – 15, 2005. This two-day course digs deeper into ranch life. Barrel racing, fence fixing and team sorting are just a few hands-on activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from honorees such as Pam Minick and Mitzi Lucas Riley. After two days of learning the “ropes,†students will compete in a mini-rodeo where they can apply their newly acquired skills and score some bragging rights. Cowgirl 101 is not a prerequisite for Ranching and Rodeo Basics.
Cowgirl U is dedicated to teaching the western lifestyle and culture through interactive lessons taught by real cowgirls and cowboys. For more information, please visit www.cowgirl.net or call 817/336-4475 or
