Amarillo, Texas, March 28, 2006 – One AQHA Director was elevated to Director Emeritus and six became Directors at Large at the 2006 AQHA Convention in Seattle in March.

Within the AQHA Board of Directors is a category established as Director Emeritus. This status is held by individuals who have served AQHA faithfully as an elected director, international district director or international appointed director and who have reached the age of 70, having served the previous 10 consecutive years as an elected director. Those who are elevated to Director Emeritus hold lifetime tenure provided that he or she has Director Emeritus status and are awarded AQHA life memberships.

AQHA Directors at Large are individuals who have served 20 cumulative years as an elected director, international district director or appointed international director. At the end of the 20th year, directors automatically receive designation as Director at Large and serve with lifetime tenure on the Board of Directors.

Eleven AQHA Directors also were elected during the Convention.

Director Emeritus
Willard Nordick, Colorado
An AQHA Director since 1996, Willard Nordick has dedicated many years to the Association. Also an AQHA Professional Horseman, breeder and exhibitor, Willard has served on the Youth Activities Committee since 1983 and continues in that capacity today, having recently completed a three-year term as chair just last year. Willard has been instrumental in the success of the Youth Excellence Seminars and AQHYA Conventions.

Directors at Large
Dr. R.M. Christensen, South Dakota
A veterinarian, Dr. Christensen has dedicated many years of service to the American Quarter Horse industry. Dr. Christensen has served on the AQHA Show Committee and has managed many South Dakota shows.

Jim Fleming, Alberta, Canada
Jim Fleming has served AQHA in several capacities. A director since 1986, Jim has been a member of the Stud Book and Registration Committee since 1993, and he served on the Hall of Fame Selection Committee from 1998 through 2000. Jim also spent many years on the Youth Activities Committee, serving from 1986 to 1993.
Dick Monahan, Washington
Dick Monahan has been a member of the Racing Committee since 1985 and currently serves as chairman. He also is serving his second term on the Racing Council. Dick has served two terms on the Hall of Fame Committee and as the committee’s vice chair.

Dr. Ed Murray, Alabama
Dr. Ed Murray has served the Association in several roles. He began his service as a director in 1986 on the Equine Research Committee, remaining a member until 1997 when he completed a three-year term as its chair. Dr. Murray then served on the Marketing Committee from 1998 to 2004 and has served on the Stud Book and Registration Committee since 2005.

Tom Scott, Florida
Tom Scott has served the Association in several roles. He began his service on the Marketing Committee. After serving a three-year term as chair, which he completed in 1999, Tom shifted his focus to the International Committee. He remains on that committee today.

Jack Walker, Iowa
Jack Walker dedicates much of his time to the Amateur Committee. He first was appointed to this position in 1986 when he became an AQHA Director, and he continues in that capacity today. Jack also is an American Quarter Horse owner and breeder of more than 50 foals.
