In Loving Memory. Dr Nick Bar. April 4, 1979 – May 1, 2006.

Barrel Racing Loses an Icon

Dr Nick Bar, The Ultimate Barrel Horse Sire, passed away on Monday morning May 1, 2006.  Owned by four-time National Finals Rodeo Qualifier, Fallon Taylor, “Nick” was loved by all.

In his youth, Dr Nick Bar set the barrel racing world on fire running the fastest qualifying time his futurity year in Fort Smith.  Dr Nick Bar claimed victories on the pro rodeo circuit as well as AQHA shows, earning points there in heading, heeling and pole bending.

A phenomenal barrel horse, Dr Nick Bar, is best known for helping Fallon Taylor place her indelible mark on barrel racing history.  A gift for Fallon, Shelton and Dian Taylor, purchased Dr Nick Bar in hopes of igniting their young daughter’s rodeo career.  “Nick” became a member of the family and surpassed everyone’s expectations.  Aboard Dr Nick Bar, Fallon filled her WPRA card in 1991 winning their first pro rodeo together in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Dr Nick Bar and Fallon fueled rodeo fans from all generations, breaking arena records at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, donating their winnings to Muscular Dystrophy and encouraging each person in the crowd to match the funds.

To say “Nick” was a crowd pleaser is a huge understatement.  Folks would drop cola cans and trip over saddles running to the fence to watch Dr Nick Bar compete.  His fluid running style, remarkable speed and ability to peel the paint smooth off a barrel amazed onlookers everywhere.  With a tender heart for his little jockey, Fallon, Dr Nick Bar entered each arena with elegance, grace and beauty like none other.  Fallon reports that, “Nick loved a Saturday night performance more than anything.  The louder the music, the better.”

Dr Nick Bar went on to become the world’s most recognized barrel horse stallion, producing numerous world champions and siring the only stud ever to win Fort Smith.  At age 21, Dr Nick Bar clocked the third fastest time at the OKC Youth World Show.

For those who will forever love Dr Nick Bar, keep your eyes on the up and coming young stallion by Dr Nick Bar and Flowers and Money.  Huachucka, meaning The Great One, is making his debut season this year on the WPRA tour with rider, Fallon Taylor.  Like his dad, “Chuck” has a style all his own and is ideally gifted to become the next Superhorse that will lead our barrel racing community into the future.

Dr Nick Bar, you will be missed.
