The 2002 Southwest Feed Bayou Classic paid out $13,830 in cash with 326 contestants competing during the weekend of November 2nd and 3rd at the SugArena in New Iberia.  There was a total of $4,000 added to the event bringing contestants from Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana together.  Contestants enjoyed unique Cajun cuisine and hospitality.  Awards were given to those contestants that were “just a tad too fast” for the 2D, 3D, and 4D as well as those contestants that were a “tad too slow”, or one out of the money in each division.  Trophy buckles were presented to the average winners long with awards through 5th place in each division.  Cash and prizes presented for the weekend totaled over $15,000!

Major sponsors of the event included Southwest Feed & Farm Supply of Youngsville, LA, Nutrena Feed, Regional Fabricators and Fox Transportation of New Iberia, LA, and Deep South Petroleum of Broussard, LA.  Pellerin Farms and Rick’s Towing and Recovery of Lafayette, LA also showed their support.  Acadiana Barrel Racing Association hosted the weekend of barrel racing.
The first run on Saturday was won by Beannie Roth of Houma, LA aboard her black horse “95” with a 16.163 for $566.  2D winner was Hes A True Cherry ridden by Brandon Halterien of Pass Christian, MS with a 16.677.  The pair took home $502.  Lacy Spano of Lake Charles, LA won the 3D for $375 riding Entire Inventory, affectionately known as Bud, with a 17.173.  The 4D winner was Marlene Primeaux of Erath, LA aboard Streak with an 18.207 good for $311.

Amanda Rutledge of Bellville, TX ran the fastest time of the weekend on Sunday aboard her great horse Tidy Fortune with a 15.879 to win the 1D.  The pair took home a $537 check for their effort.  Melissa Meche of Washington, LA won the 2D aboard her sorrel gelding Hurry Up Seven with a 16.430, winning $479.  3D winner was Megan Troglen of Scott, LA riding Sham Significant with a 16.882 for $362. The 4D was won by Staci Hernandez and Whimpys Royal Smoke of Carencro, LA with a 17.900 for a check totaling $311.

Robin Goins of Leesville, LA and Yankee Gidget proved to be the most consistent team winning the 1D average with a 16.114.  The pair also were the high money winners taking home $838 along with a trophy buckle.  Kelly Mudd of Bell City, LA won the 2D average with a 16.583 aboard Babe.  The average winner in the 3D was Jeannie Heitman of Lecompte, LA and Midnight Blue Launch with a 17.793.  Erin Swim of Alexandria, LA and Skippa Bar Jodie were the 4D average winners.
