Problem with Thoroughbred Running Barrels

I HAVE A THOROUGHBRED AND NEED I MENTION THAT I HAVE NEVER OWNED ONE BEFORE, I HAVE DEALT WITH THEM, BUT THE THING IS NOT IN THE DISCIPLINE OF BARREL RACING. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WOULD BE A PROBLEM WITH USING HER IN THE BARRELS. SHE WAS ONLY ROPED OFF OF. ( A ROPER OWNED HER, NO OFFENSE GUYS, SO HE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO WITH HER SINCE SHE IS SO TALL WITH SPEED AND LONG STRIDES, SO HE GAVE HER TO ME.) I HAVE TRIED HER BUT NOT COMPETITIVELY IN THE BARRELS. SHE DOES GREAT, BUT SOMTIMES AROUND THE SECOND BARREL SHE TENDS TO FIGHT AT KNOW WHY">TIMES. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CAN’T DO MUCH, BUT BEFORE ANYTHING I GUESS MY QUESTION IS, IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE HER COMPETITIVELY? THANKS NM

Whether or not you can use your thoroughbred competitively will all depend on her temperment and willingness to work for you. It might be that you need to take her training a little slower so that she develops the confidence in herself and you needed to compete on a horse in the barrel race. As long as she is athletic and mentally willing to try for you, I don’t see any reason that you can’t use her for barrel racing. Be sure that she has no soundness issues and that her teeth have been floated recently. You wouldn’t want to start out with “marks” against you that might back your training program up.
