CONTESTANTS HAVE A DYNAMITE TIME AT THE 7TH ANNUAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN SUPER RACE – OVER $44,500 PAID OUT!

When the lights dimmed on the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Super Race (RMSR) held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, there had been over $44,500 paid out in cash and prizes! The event, which was presented by Western Warehouse and produced by TNT Events, drew contestants from near and far. They came on Labor Day Weekend from as far away as Texas, Utah, Arizona and even Michigan! Hailing from 10 states in all, nearly 1200 competitors passed through the entry gate by the time the dust had settled on Monday, September 6th. They were all hot on the trail for some of the dynamite awards, which were given to contestants in ALL classes! Many commented that they really appreciated the processing fee being eliminated, perhaps that had something to do with Open 4D entries being up 36% from last May! Whatever the reason, producers, Ty and Nancy Rinaldo, were extremely grateful for the outstanding contestants, their traveling partners, the event sponsors, awards donors and vendors as well as the incredible office and arena crew!
Julie Pluemer of Bosque Farms, New Mexico, was the Average Champion in the 1st Division of the Open 4D. She rode her 6-year-old AQHA gelding, Zanza Cash, AKA Dinero, off into the sunset with a sparkling Bob Berg Buckle, sponsored by www.PalmerLakeMotors.com. They also took home a signed and numbered piece of artwork donated by Western Horseman Magazine, and a bag of Buckeye Feeds. Julie has only had Dinero for about a year and has done most of his barrel training by herself. However, he came with excellent foundation skills and turned out to be one of those “dream” horses that has taken right to the barrels. She says that if they’re sitting by the arena, Dinero will watch every horse that runs from start to finish. “It’s almost like he’s studying their runs or even planning his own!” Riding since she was a child, Julie now has 2 children of her own who are avid horse lovers. Her 5-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter keep her busy going to Junior Rodeos during the summer. However, it was Julie and her daughter, Leia, who took advantage of the RMSR for a fun mother/daughter weekend away! Although Leia had to leave her good horse at home, she still managed to head back to New Mexico with some money from the Youth 4D.
Cindy Gillespie of Ransom, Kansas, was the proud winner of the 2D Average Buckle donated by TNT Bull Co. If you’re wondering if there’s a connection between TNT Events and TNT Bull Co., the answer is yes! Producer/Arena Director, Ty Rinaldo, now has a string of bucking bulls. In fact, he and his business partner, Jesse Hill, have a bull going to the PBR finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bull’s name is Crown of Thorns. So, if you’re watching, be sure to cheer for the big, yellow muley! In a round about way, he’s helped sponsor the barrel race. Cindy was also presented with a signed and numbered piece of artwork donated by Western Horseman Magazine, and a bag of Buckeye Horse Treats.
Taking home the gold for the 3D Open Average was Tyra Kane of Canyon, Texas. Although she kept on the go, riding three horses in the Open 4D each day, it was the consistency that she and “Moe” showed that earned them the title. Winning the 4D Average was Penny Chivers of Pine, Colorado, and her 9-year-old gray mare, KCK Voo Doo Bar. Each contestant was presented with a custom-made headstall by Pro Rodeo Originals, which sported a Bob Berg Concho on the headband. They also trotted away with a Wrangler Jeans Gift Certificate and a bag of Buckeye Horse Treats.
Tough competition was only a stride away as Second Place Average Winners in the Open were, 1D-Kris Burden, 2D–Margie Ward, 3D–Shawn Eddings and 4D-Cheryl Kennedy. Each of these lucky competitors received a RMSR Embroidered Jacket, a Classic Equine Gift Certificate and some Vet Wrap donated by VetLink of Parker, Colorado. Third Place Average Champs did not leave for home without their fair share of the goods. 1D-Michelle Kenline, 2D-Deb Christy, 3D-Marvella Phelps and 4D-Rajeana Thompson each packed up with a RMSR Embroidered Duffel Bag and a Farnam Fly Mask.
First Place Average Awards in the other classes went to, WPRA-Brenda Delano, $1000 Novice Horse-Donna Krening, $1000 Novice Rider-Debbie Armstrong, Youth 4D-Bailey Zellars and Senior 4D-Carol Ellis. For their consistency, each of them left with a RMSR Embroidered Jacket and a signed and numbered print donated by Western Horseman Magazine. Second Place Average Awards in these classes went to, WPRA-Michelle Kenline, $1000 Novice Horse-Patty McDonald, $1000 Novice Rider-Alayna Kidd, Youth 4D-Brittany Fellows and Senior 4D-Deb Schroetlin. Their efforts earned them a subscription to TURN magazine as well as some Buckeye Horse Treats.
Daily awards were also given in the Open 4D and as always, random draw awards so everyone would be eligible for some of the dynamite prizes. Award donors included: Buckeye Nutrition, Classic Equine, Corona/Lexol, Cowboy Magic, Farnam, John Ewing, Myler Bits, Pro Rodeo Originals, Rocky Mountain Saddles and Feed, The Equine Touch, Turn Magazine, VetLink, Western Horseman Magazine, Wrangler and TNT Events. Contestants who had pre-entered the Open 4D were put into a random draw for a beautiful trophy saddle donated by Rocky Mountain Saddles and Feed of Fountain, Colorado. The lucky winner was Rajeana Thompson of Amarillo, Texas. A second pre-entry random draw winner was Cameron Brees of Camp Verde, Arizona. He walked away with a fantastic Myler Bit valued at $140.
When they weren’t racing, contestants were able to look through the numerous vendor booths on site ranging from trailer sales to tack sales, clothing finds to jewelry divine! They were also able to take advantage of beautiful Colorado Springs and all that it has to offer.
