Ft. Worth, Texas - On Friday, Jan. 28, SBC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of SBC Communications, Inc., granted $10,000 to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame to develop an online library catalog.
For the past 29 years, the National Cowgirl Museum's library has grown popular as an educational resource for students, teachers, curators, collectors and researchers in various disciplines. The library's content focuses on the accomplishments and contributions of women of the American West.
"Electronic access in the form of standard bibliographic information on the World Wide Web is the optimal way for the public to realize and benefit from the full potential of the library's collection," said Kathy Jackson, museum librarian.
The online catalog is scheduled to be completed by January 2006 and will be accessible through the Cultural District Library Consortium (CDLC), a local group of Fort Worth libraries who have partnered with Texas Christian University to provide public access to museum library catalogs in one centralized database.
Amigos, one of the nation's largest networks and leaders in providing information technology support to libraries, will provide the National Cowgirl Museum the best, up-to-date technology for small library cataloging.
Viewing the catalog will be possible through a link on the National Cowgirl Museum's web-site. The link will take visitors directly to the CDLC's catalog where they can search the National Cowgirl Museum's library collection as well as those of the Amon Carter Museum, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Modern Art Museum.
Details: The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to honoring and documenting the lives of legendary women who have displayed extraordinary courage and a pioneering spirit in their trailblazing efforts.
