CHAMPIONSHIPS BECOMING A FAMILY TRADITION AT
THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN SUPER RACE!

Colorado Springs, Colorado was the place to be over Labor Day Weekend as the skies were clear, the times were smokin’ and the cash and prizes were abundant for the 8th Annual Rocky Mountain Super Race presented by PalmerLakeMotors.com and produced by TNT Events. A standard pattern was set and the ground was worked to perfection in the same arena that hosted the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in July. Classes were offered for every age and skill level and AW4D as well as Better Barrel Races, WPRA and SCBRA sanctioned the event. By the time the last trailer pulled away from Norris-Penrose Event Center, there had been over $40,000 in cash and prizes handed out to contestants from Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

The fast time of the weekend was turned in by Kris Burden and her horse, Peanut, on Sunday when they clocked a speedy 17.250. However, it was Linda Lay of Torrington, Wyoming, that took home the Average honors for the Open 4D with a three-day average of 17.465. The consistency of Linda and her steed, Really Jettin’, was amazing. They placed fourth in the Open 4D as well as the WPRA Divisional Tour on Saturday and were second in each class on Sunday and finished off the weekend with a win in both classes on Monday. Needless to say, Linda and Really Jettin’ trotted off with the Average awards for the WPRA as well! She rode off into the sunset with $2068 and a truckload full of prizes for a weekend full of fun! Coincidentally, this past May at the Rocky Mountain Super Race, Linda’s daughter, Brandie Halls, was crowned the Average Champion for the Open 4D as well as the WPRA. Barrel racing expertise definitely runs through their blood and Rocky Mountain Super Race Championships are becoming a family tradition! Laura Lambert of Colorado Springs, Colorado, took home second place Average honors in the Open 1D and Margie Ward of Eagle, Colorado finished a close third. Get your results here.

Returning home with the championship honors in the Open 2D were Becky Larson and Go For The Raise of Sharon Springs, Kansas, with an average time of 17.996. Audra Reeves and Kathy Gannon finished second and third respectfully. The Open 3D champs were Connie Passig and Apache Kid of Miami, New Mexico, with an average time of 18.469. Second and third place honors were split between Patty McDonald and Dawn Hoselton. Taking home average awards in the 4D were Cindy Robertson and Deb Schroetlin. Daily awards were also given in the Open 4D and as always, random draw awards so everyone would be eligible for some of the dynamite prizes. Award donors included: Wrangler, Classic Equine, Corona/Lexol, Hawthorne Products, International Horse Vets, John Ewing Company, Jones Leather Mfg., Justin Boot Company, Purina Mills, LLC, Riata West, Wahl Clipper Corporation, Western Horseman Magazine and TNT Events.

Weekend Average Winners in the other classes headed for home with Pro Equine splint boots and embroidered duffel bags filled with goodies. Top qualifier for the Youth 4D title went to Bailey Zellars and Cheyannes Memories of Kremmling, Colorado. Laura Schmoll of Loveland, Colorado and Lucy Jetzan took home the Senior 4D honors. Tanya Jolovich of Gillette, Wyoming, along with Classy claimed the $1000 Novice Horse title while newcomer, Janae Faeth and Miss Bonnie Amber from Woodland Park, Colorado, enjoyed the $1000 Novice Rider victory.
When they weren’t racing, contestants were able to look through the vendor booths on site ranging from trailer sales to tack sales, photographs to horse supplements. They were also able to take advantage of Colorado Springs and all of the tourist attractions, fine dining and beauty that it has to offer.
