JONES SEEKS ALL AMERICAN REPEAT WITH FASTEST QUALIFIER

Amarillo, Texas, August 29, 2006 – Winning his first All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs last year gave trainer Paul Jones a reason to breathe a little easier.

“It’s a big relief,” said Jones about having a victory in American Quarter Horse racing’s most famous race. “It breaks the ice. The pressure’s not as hard on us now.”

Jones, who is based at Los Alamitos Race Course in California, has been AQHA’s Champion Trainer every year since 2002. He qualified three horses to last year’s All American Futurity and won the final with 37-1 longshot Teller Cartel, who became the first maiden in history to win the race. Jones’ lone starter this year is fastest qualifier No Secrets Here (First Down Dash – Dicey Secret by Raise A Secret), who raced through a driving rain and a 5 mph head wind on August 17 to win his 440-yard trial by a length over fellow qualifiers Mightys First Call, Genuine Botticelli and First Freeze. No Secrets Here is ridden by Cody Jensen, who was aboard Teller Cartel in the 2005 final.

No Secrets Here, who races for breeder Vessels Stallion Farm and partner Benny Rosset, entered the All American trials off a third-place finish nearly two months earlier in the 350-yard Ed Burke Million Memorial Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos. Now, the First Down Dash colt is having an easy few days before the All American final on Labor Day.

“After the trials, you want to get them to recoup, get them to come back to themselves, kind of take it easy with them,” Jones said of his regimen. “Just gallop him a few times, just kind of keep him happy, get him back to the race.”

The day before the All American Futurity, Jones will attempt to win the All American Derby (G1) for the first time. With six horses in the final, including 440-yard track record holder Strawkins (Hawkinson – Shirleys Strawfly by Strawfly Special) who won the Rainbow Derby (G1) earlier this year, the odds are heavily in his favor.

Meanwhile, Jones says the requirements for winning the All American Futurity are fairly simple. “The most important thing is to have a good horse,” he said. “You’ve just got to have a good horse and a lot of luck with the weather conditions and track conditions. Everything’s got to go your way.”
