That’s how horse lovers associated with Sunset Hill Farm described their emotions as five of their beloved animals succumbed to the Equine Herpes Virus since late January.
Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says a horse at Payson Park Thoroughbred Training Facility tested positive on Monday for equine herpes virus-1.
The CDFA noted that 70 exposed horses have been placed under quarantine with required twice daily temperature monitoring.
“In my 60 years, I haven’t seen this here,” she said. “We’re at a loss right now trying to figure out where it came from.”
Horses at the facility are being monitored for the disease and have been quarantined to the site.
