What to do with unwanted horses is the most urgent issue facing the equine industry, according to responses from a recent survey. The findings are part of the American Horse Publications nationwide online survey, conducted from Oct. 15, 2009, to Jan. 31, 2010, which resulted in more than 11,000 responses. NASHVILLE – By a one-vote margin, a bill that lays the groundwork for establishing a horse meat processing plant in Tennessee advanced through a key House subcommittee Wednesday despite opposition from singer Willie Nelson. State Rep. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, is sponsor of the bill – HB1428 – that he said can help resolve an overpopulation of horses that has left thousands of the animals abandoned.
