AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) executive director issued requirements for all cattle of Mexican origin that enter the United States through a port of entry located outside Texas on or after August 24, 2026.

AUSTIN, TX – Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) officials received confirmation of anthrax in a Spanish goat on an Edwards County premises on August 12, 2026. This is the first confirmed case in Edwards County and second reported case of anthrax in Texas this year.

This is a first-of-its-kind training program designed to train and certify individuals on myiasis clinical identification, animal inspection, NWS treatment, and NWS movement requirements. Due to the recent detections of New World screwworm (NWS), the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) is encouraging veterinarians to educate their clients on the clinical signs of myiasis and available prevention and treatment products. Currently, pet owners transporting companion animals are able to do so without movement permits or health certificates out of infested zones. However, all large groups of companion animals being moved may be asked for further verification to ensure that the animals have been monitored for symptoms. AUSTIN, TX – On June 3, 2026, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) received confirmation of a detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in Zavala County, Texas. The horse attended the 2025 WPRA World Finals and Elite Barrel Race event in Waco, Texas on November 5-9, 2025. TAHC staff are working closely with event coordinators, equine owners, and veterinarians to respond to the outbreak, take measures to protect equine, and prevent the further spread of the virus.
