IBM supports genetic antidiscrimination bill

For the rest of the story click here  IBM, one of the world’s largest employers, on Tuesday endorsed federal legislation that would make it unlawful to discriminate on the basis of a person’s genetic code. Emerging breakthroughs in gene testing will enable doctors to tailor prescription medication to the individual and treat patients proactively against a predisposition to things like diabetes, breast cancer or heart disease. A fear of discrimination, however, could prevent people from taking advantage of the gene testing technology. IE 7 gives secure Web sites the green light

For the rest of the story click here  Microsoft has quietly flipped the switch on a new feature in Internet Explorer 7 meant to combat phishing scams. The software giant in early January made a change on its computer systems that allowed Web sites fitted with a new type of security certificate to display a green-filled address bar in IE 7, Markellos Diorinos, a product manager for Windows at Microsoft, said in an interview.

U.K. researchers devise smart-card hack

For the rest of the story click here  Two Cambridge researchers have created a scenario in which hackers can bypass the latest bank-card security measures. Saar Drimer and Steven Murdoch, members of the Cambridge University Computer Laboratory, demonstrated last month how they could modify a supposedly tamper-proof chip-and-PIN payment terminal to play Tetris. They have now extended the hack to demonstrate how they can compromise the system by relaying card information between a genuine card and a fake one.
