The AVMA has posted online answers to frequently asked questions about two emerging viruses—canine respiratory coronavirus and canine parvovirus type 2c.
The respiratory coronavirus was recently identified as causing disease outbreaks in dogs in Florida shelters. The parvovirus type 2c was first identified in the United States as the cause of parvoviral enteritis outbreaks in 2006 and 2007 in Arizona, California, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas.

AUSTIN, TX – Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) officials received confirmation of anthrax in a Spanish goat on an Edwards County premises on August 12, 2026. This is the first confirmed case in Edwards County and second reported case of anthrax in Texas this year.
The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), in collaboration with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is providing animal owners and producers, veterinarians, New World Screwworm (NWS) Certified Inspectors, and other stakeholders with a quick-reference resource outlining current animal movement requirements related to NWS. This platform contains content to facilitate TAHC-compliant movement of animals.
