Eastern equine encephalitis is off to a slow start this year, and health officials are hoping the trend continues, but caution it could easily take off if conditions are right.
On Tuesday, the state Department of Public Health announced EEE was found in a Raynham mosquito pool. Last year, the virus was detected in that town on July 12 and a week later a Middleboro horse died of the virus.
By the end of the month, the region was under a state of emergency because there was so much EEE in the environment. By Aug. 5 planes doused the region with insecticide.
