N.J. closer to banning horse slaughter

TRENTON — A bill prohibiting the slaughter of horses for human consumption passed the New Jersey Senate on Monday, with a vote of 35-4.
On June 25, Senate bill S1976, sponsored by Senator Raymond J. Lesniak (D-20) was substituted by A2023, the identical bill that already passed State Assembly.
“I’m proud New Jersey is becoming the humane capital of the world,” Lesniak said.
A2023 passed Assembly on May 24 to a vote of 72-3. Read more…
