I have a six year old gelding we bought about two months ago. He was already trained by the other owner so we took it slow to get used to him. When we run him hard he turns in front of the first barrel. My wife and I both have ridden him and he will do the same thing. I even ran him way out, toward the third barrel , and he still came inside the first barrel. Slow work he does fine and the other two barrels are good. If you to drop the outside rein push him out he will turn a circle at that very moment.

Don’t drop the outside rein! Your horse needs the balance of the outside rein to help direct him up to and past the barrel. You will have to ride him two handed into the turn with light pressure on the outside rein to keep him moving straight and “forward”.
