Is my horse to old to compete?

howdy

My horse is 17 yrs old. i was wondering if she was too old to run barrels (compete). I’ve wanted to barrel race for a long time and i don’t know if my horse is too old. help me out please.
thank you

Your horse is not too old to run barrels as long as she is in excellent physical condition, i.e. very fit and sound. You may have to pay special attention to joints and muscles and she may require some physical maintenance such as joint injections, teeth floating more often than just once a year, etc.
