AVMA wants clarification on USDA’s animal ID replacement plan

The USDA’s announcement earlier this month that it would drop its plan for a National Animal Identification System and focus on “disease traceability” received a mixed reaction from within the industry. The president of R-CALF USA called the move a major victory for independent cattle producers,” while the National Pork Producers Council said it had questions as to the effectiveness of USDA’s new plan. Until such questions are answered, AVMA said it “could not consider endorsing this concept at this time.” Stock & Land (Australia)
