| Due to the recent detections of New World screwworm (NWS), the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) is encouraging veterinarians to educate their clients on the clinical signs of myiasis and available prevention and treatment products.
Currently, pet owners transporting companion animals are able to do so without movement permits or health certificates out of infested zones. However, all large groups of companion animals being moved may be asked for further verification to ensure that the animals have been monitored for symptoms.
While Texas is not requiring movement documentation, the destination state may have additional requirements. Pet owners should continue to follow all other applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Pet owners can help protect their animals by taking proactive measures, including monitoring animals daily, reporting suspect cases to their local veterinarian, and discussing treatment options with their veterinarian. |
