Palm Beach Equine Clinic Acquires Katy Equine Clinic

World’s Top Veterinarians are now a Resource for the Lone Star State

Katy,TX—The world-renowned veterinarians of the Palm Beach Equine Clinic, headquartered in Wellington, Florida, have formed a strategic partnership with the Katy Equine Clinic in Katy, Texas. Lone Star State residents will now have access to state of the art resources, including 19 of the world’s leading veterinarians, streamlined digital medical records and advanced diagnostic and treatment options. These new resources augment the high quality service that the Katy Equine Clinic and its founder, James “Mike” Heitmann, D.V.M., M.S., have provided for more than 25 years.

“Mike Heitmann has taken great care of his customers,” said Scott Swerdlin, D.V.M., President of the Palm Beach Equine Clinic. “Our goal is to continue to provide quality service, as well as expand diagnostic and treatment options.” Plans call for the Katy Equine Clinic to become a regional referral hospital specializing in surgery, lameness, podiatry and emergency and ICU care. On the immediate horizon– the construction of a new surgical suite and the purchase of additional state of the art diagnostic tools. Already available: digital radiography, computed radiography, ultrasound, two surgical rooms, shockwave therapy and the ability to create platelet-rich plasma for the treatment of wounds and ligament and tendon injuries. The number of staff veterinarians has already doubled, with Michelle Dumas, D.V.M., and Josh Zacharias, D.V.M., M.S., joining Dr. Heitmann and Catherine Berry, D.V.M.

“Joining the Palm Beach Equine Clinic team is a great opportunity to work with experienced veterinarians and utilize state of the art technology,” says Dr. Zacharias, who has a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences and was the Equine Emergency Surgeon at Iowa State University before the move to Texas. In addition to his role as surgeon, Dr. Zacharias has a keen interest in the equine hoof and attended farrier school. “Equine podiatry is critical to maintaining the athlete’s soundness. I look forward to working with the farriers in the Katy and Houston area and providing world-class equine hoof health,” he explains. Dr. Zacharias is charged with designing the new surgical suite and the purchase of additional equipment. Upgrades are also planned for existing equipment, including new ultrasound probes that allow for more precise views of tendons and ligaments, as well as an updated shock wave therapy unit.

This dedication to the most effective diagnostic and treatment options has helped Palm Beach Equine Clinic build an international reputation. With numerous Olympic medalists in their care, the goal is always to help keep horses healthy and happy. Dr. Swerdlin continues, “Palm Beach Equine Clinic is committed to the horse owners in Texas. We look forward to working with them to provide the gold standard in equine veterinary care.”
