Rabies cases in animals increasing in South Dakota

The number of confirmed rabies cases in animals in South Dakota increased to 53 in 2009 from 24 in 2008, prompting health officials to remind in-state residents to get their pets vaccinated. “The increase is not a cause of alarm,” the state veterinarian said, adding: “It’s just another reminder that we still have rabies in South Dakota.
