FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a bill Thursday that would create a state board to study horse welfare issues and assist in dealing with unwanted horses in Kentucky.
House Bill 398, sponsored by House agriculture committee chairman Tom McKee, D-Cynthiana, would create the Kentucky Equine Health and Welfare Council. It now goes to the full Senate.
The measure is a horse-specific counterpart to Senate Bill 105, which would create the state Livestock Care Standards Commission to establish welfare regulations for any on-farm agricultural livestock. Read More…
